The WHO (World Health Organization) has been carrying out the campaign for mental health. And the 10th of October of every year is the World Mental Health Day. And World Mental Health Day is being celebrated since the year 2013. The World Federation for Mental Health ( WFMH) declared “Make Mental Health for all a global Priority” as the theme for this year’s World mental Health day celebrations.
In post Covid pandemic period, this slogan assumes much more significance. This is because no country or community was spared from the impacts of the pandemic during the period from 2020 and 2022. The transmission of this serious viral illness affected the physical health of a huge number of humans and has led to devastating number of deaths, the impacts of the same on the mental health of the populations around the globe is enormous too.
The Animal Assisted Interventions in particular the Equine Assisted Activities and Therapies (EAAT) have been gaining ground internationally as supporting therapy in improving the wholesome mental and physical wellbeing of persons suffering from psychiatric and cognitive disorders.
And Aindhinai FPO has been has been contributing towards improving the mental health of the humans in its own right. Through offering Donkey Assisted therapy it is being offered in the campus.
The donkeys serve as wonderful source of providing therapeutic benefits for different types mental and psychiatric disorders such as Autism, depression etc. The presence and physical closeness have proved to be improving the social, emotional and physical domains of the suffering from such disorders. The number of people being affected with these disorders have been on the rise all over the world.
On the Mental Health Day we at Aindhinai FPO owe to further the measures to improve the mental health of the individuals and community as a whole through whatever way possible and in particular through the intervention of Donkey Assisted therapy.
